IRS EIN #93-2686071 formed on 08-02-2023
STATE OF CT #CHR.0067218-EXEMPT with an effective date of 08-02-2023.
In recent years, the number of dogs in Norwalk has been growing in leaps and bounds. Daily walks and time spent in city dog parks have become essential social time for both dogs and humans.
With increasing use of city sidewalks, parks and green spaces for dog walking and socializing, there have been some growing pains and confusion on city rules on dogs’ access to certain parks and limited parking options at Taylor Farm. And with no formal group representing all dog families across the city, Norwalk officials have been left to field calls and emails from individual dog families with no clear way to communicate back to the city residents with dogs.
In the summer of 2022, a petition was launched by Price Snedaker which grew to 1,344 names asking the city to open a section of Shady Beach in the winter months to dogs. While the request was turned down by the city, a conversation began between Parks & Rec and Price Snedaker who was informally representing dog families from Talyor Farm and Sono. Topics included parking issues at Taylor Farm along with access to fresh water, the need for a dog park in SONO, and a desire to improve communications between dog families and the city.
In the summer of 2023, several Norwalk dog families formed a nonprofit, Friends of Norwalk Dogs, to represent Norwalk dogs and their families in city and park planning.
Friends of Norwalk Dogs mission is to represent Norwalk residents with dogs and to collaborate with Norwalk Park & Recreation to:
Preserve and improve Norwalk’s current off-leash dog parks.
Develop more leashed and off-leashed spaces in Norwalk for dogs.
Establish communication between dog families and the city.
